🏖️ DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT: MYKONOS, GREECE

The Mediterranean's gay playground
Nestled in the heart of the Cyclades, Mykonos has transformed from an unassuming Greek island into the Aegean's undisputed queer capital, where tanned bodies sprawl across golden sand by day and dance until dawn in open-air clubs.
This Aegean paradise centers around the gay-popular Super Paradise and Elia beaches, where bronzed bodies pack the beaches and seaside bars pump music from midday until sunset. While July and August bring the international circuit party crowd (and eye-watering prices to match), insiders know June and September deliver equally spectacular weather with more breathing room. Just a 40-minute flight from Athens but worlds away in attitude, Mykonos is where history and hookup culture coexist in sun-soaked harmony.
Where to Stay:
🏛️ Kouros Hotel & Suites delivers five-star luxury with breathtaking sea views, a gorgeous infinity pool, and spacious minimalist rooms. Just a 10-minute walk from town but feels worlds away from the bustle. Usually $375-650/night during summer — but you can stay here for free if you enter our aforementioned giveaway!
🌿 Rochari Hotel offers a perfect balance of luxury and value with a central location, stunning views, and one of the island's most beautiful pool areas. Family-run but very gay-friendly with attentive service. $200-350/night in peak season.
💰 MyCocoon Hostel provides stylish pod-style accommodations for budget travelers who still want to be in the heart of Mykonos Town. Modern, clean, and surprisingly chic with a small pool and bar. Private pods from $90-150/night during summer months.
Where to Eat:
🍽️ Kastro's offers romantic dinner seating along the sea wall with front-row sunset views. Their Mediterranean menu focuses on fresh seafood and Greek classics with modern twists. Reservations essential, especially for sunset tables.
🥂 JackieO' Beach Club Restaurant serves upscale Mediterranean cuisine on Mykonos' famous Super Paradise Beach. Come for lunch and stay through sunset as the atmosphere shifts from casual dining to beach party.
🍷 Kiki's Tavern is a no-electricity, no-reservations spot overlooking Agios Sostis beach. Get in line before noon for simple grilled meats, fresh salads, and authentic Greek hospitality. The wait (with complimentary wine) is part of the experience.
🌮 Souvlaki Story provides delicious, affordable gyros and souvlaki for late-night cravings or budget-friendly lunches. Multiple locations in town, perfect for quick bites between beaches and bars.
When to Go: When to Go: Late June through early September is high season, with peak crowds and prices in July and August.
For the full party scene (but maximum crowds), aim for July 20-August 20 when international DJs hit all major venues.
Want perfect weather with fewer tourists? Early June and mid-September offer 80°F days, warm sea, and room to breathe on beaches.
October still delivers swimming weather and dramatically lower prices, but many venues close by mid-month.
Maybe avoid November through April unless you're interested in a completely different, locals-only island experience with limited options.
Check Out: The annual XLSIOR Festival (typically late August) transforms the island into the Mediterranean's premier circuit party with events at venues across Mykonos. Week-long passes are still available, but they sell out months in advance. Individual party tickets can be found closer to dates.
For a cultural break, visit the iconic 16th-century windmills and nearby Paraportiani Church—the island's most photographed white-domed structure that's appeared in countless fashion shoots.
Delos, the mythological birthplace of Apollo, is a UNESCO site accessible by short boat trip. Ancient ruins with zero nightlife, but fascinating context for your Greek island adventure.

Money-Saving Tip: Mykonos is one of Greece's most expensive islands, but you can save by booking accommodations in Mykonos Town and walking to nightlife instead of paying for taxis. For beaches, take the public water taxis from the Old Port rather than expensive private boats. For meals, venture a few streets back from the waterfront to find restaurants with the same quality food at half the tourist-front prices. Another money saving tip?
