This Gay Ski Week Sets The Slopes On Fire
While some LGBTQ+ travelers chase summer year-round, the savvy ones know that winter's hottest destination is Aspen Gay Ski Weekâwhere the slopes are steep and the parties are on fire. Every January, thousands descend on North America's legendary ski capital for a week of downhill thrills and late-night revelry. With the 2025 festival set for January 12-19, now's the perfect time to start planning your mountain escape.
Gay Ski Week takes over the entire town, with daily après-ski parties (think tea) and nightly events, including exclusive events for women. The highlight? The downhill costume competition, where skiers and snowboarders showcase their most outrageous outfits while racing down the mountain. The week culminates in Saturday nightâs legendary finale event, the pool party!
But wait⌠thereâs more! And of course, letâs not forget the skiing (and snowboarding)! Aspen's four distinct mountains offer something for everyone: Aspen Mountain (Ajax) delivers 76 trails of primarily intermediate and advanced terrain right above downtown, while Buttermilk caters to beginners with gentle slopes and top-notch instruction. One lift ticket gets you access to all four mountains, connected by free shuttles. First-time skiers should head to Buttermilk's beginner-friendly slopes, where group and private lessons are available daily
Where to stay: Book earlyâproperties fill up fast for Gay Ski Week!
The official hotel is The Limelight, a boutique experience that will hill host the daily apres ski and hospitality suite. Rooms from $659/night during the event.
For those looking for a luxury experience, The W Aspen is one of the only Alpine Escapes in North America and offers the most central location. Rooms from $899/night.
Budget-conscious travelers should look at staying in the nearby Hoffmann Hotel, and taking a shuttle or driving into Aspen, 30 mins away. Rooms from $317/night.
Getting there & passes: Flights to Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) run from major U.S. cities, with round-trip fares averaging and range from $400 (from LAX) to $700 (from NYC). A full week pass will run you close to $500 and includes all parties and events, a weekend pass costs $300. See you on the slopes!
These husbands went from broke to financially successful. Now they want to help you.
John Schneider and David Auten both worked in finance for nearly 15 years, but they realized their âfabulousâ lifestyle was leading them to a future where theyâd never own a home or have any retirement savings.
And when they realized that almost no financial firms or advisors geared their messages towards LGBTQ+ people, they set out to change that.
And now, we want to help you ease into investingâŚ
Ease into investing
âEaseâ being the key word. With automated tools like portfolio rebalancing and dividend reinvestment, Betterment makes investing easy for you, and a total grind for your money.
Q&A Time:
Last week we asked, how much do you typically budget for a vacation? Here are the results:
Planning a whole vacation for under $1,000 is a SKILL, honey!
âI always always always end up spending more than I budget for. I try not to look at my credit card after a trip until I absolutely have toâ
âI don't save an exuberant amount but definitely set aside a little of my paycheck each week so that money isn't entirely in the way of the things I wish to experience when abroad.â
âUsually stick with Delta when possible.... But open to all, or fully travel verse!
This week we want to know: Whatâs your favorite season to travel? Tell us why in the comments!
