Our 5 Favorite Gay Winter Getaway Destinations
As we head into the final stretch of the year, we’re thinking about where we can go to escape the cold while checking some fantastic gay travel experiences off our list. Here are some of the best Queer-friendly spots to hit up before the year’s over — including a few that hold their Pride during the winter months!
1. San Juan, Puerto Rico
If you haven’t considered Puerto Rico before, now’s the time! Puerto Rico Winter Pride, happening in December, offers a warm, welcoming vibe perfect for LGBTQ+ travelers.
We’ve put together a free PDF guide to the queer scene in Puerto Rico - plus a super convenient Google Maps List of the Top 101 Queer-Friendly spots across the island.
San Juan is a hotspot for queer culture, and with events on the beach, nightlife parties, and cultural activities, you’ll be soaking in the sun while celebrating who you are. No passport needed for U.S. citizens, and with stunning beaches and amazing food, it’s the perfect tropical escape this winter.
2. Palm Springs, California
Deserts more your vibe? A snowbird location for many on the west coast, Palm Springs is known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community year-round, but peak season is January thru March. Also, Palm Springs Pride kicks off in November, when the weather is perfect. Activities abound: simply swim by your hotel’s pool, dance the night away at one of Palm Springs’ many bars, or go hiking into the San Jacinto Mountains. 🌡️ Typical high temperature in January: 71°F/22°C.
3. Miami, Florida
Miami is always a solid option, but if you're planning to head there in November or December, the city's gay nightlife heats up even more during this time. The city’s iconic Art Basel festival also happens in December, attracting a huge LGBTQ+ crowd.
The clubs, the beaches (head to Haulover Beach if you like things au naturel), and the overall queer-friendly vibe make Miami a can't-miss warm winter destination. The Wynwood Arts District is perfect for exploring if you're into street art, galleries, and a little bit of hipster cool with a queer twist. 🌥️ Typical number of cloudy days in December: 7 or less.
3. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
One of the most gay-friendly places in the world, Puerto Vallarta is a year-round LGBTQ+ paradise, but it’s particularly amazing during the winter months when temperatures are mild, and the nightlife is on fire. And a new gay hotel you might recognize from PR just opened there that we can’t wait to get to.
With events, beach clubs, and rooftop pool parties, PV is where the fun never stops. Zona Romántica is the place to be, with bars like Mr. Flamingo and clubs like Industry keeping things lively well into the night. 🛏️ Pro tip: PV is full of gorgeous Airbnbs that make this a great and affordable trip with friends. Check out these current deals.
4. Buenos Aires, Argentina
If you're looking for a bigger adventure, head down to Buenos Aires in December. With summer beginning in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the perfect time to explore this vibrant, LGBTQ-friendly city. There’s a strong queer presence, and if you love tango, nightlife, and exploring a city with rich culture, Buenos Aires is a fantastic destination. Plus, it’s super walkable and full of street art, museums, and fabulous restaurants. ☀️ Typical high temperature in December: 82°F/28°C.
OR more interested in a beach vacation? Argentina’s Mar del Plata is the local getaway for the boys of Buenos Aires, about an hour’s plane ride, and it boast two gay beaches.
5. Malta
If you're looking for an alternative to the Canaries this winter, Malta is an excellent choice for LGBTQ+ travelers. With its mild Mediterranean climate, vibrant culture, and rich history, Malta offers a unique blend of relaxation and exploration. Valletta, the capital, is full of stunning architecture, cozy cafes, and lively bars.
Malta has also gained a reputation as one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries in Europe, having legalized same-sex marriage and established strong anti-discrimination laws. For beach lovers, the island has some incredible spots like Golden Bay, while history buffs can explore ancient temples and fortifications. ✈️ Typical travel time from London to Malta: 3 hours, 15 minutes.

Q&A Time:
Last week we asked, how do you choose your travel destination? Here are the results:
Word of mouth in 2024? Yes, honey!
"I depend on the recommendations of people I trust. Especially sisters, Other Queens” Work.
"I have a bucket list. After choosing a destination, I research it including blogs and social media sites.” The problem is now my TikTok always thinks I’m going to Paris.
“If the place just looks like my vibe on social media I go and check it out for myself” We love a vibe.
