Plus: our favorite Gay travel books to add to your reading list 📚

Welcome to #GoQueer - the travel newsletter for the LGBTQ+ community. We dish out insider tips, share epic lists of queer hotspots, and snag unbeatable deals so you can #LoveWhereYouGo.

This week:

Oh, and btw: we don’t make any money from the content in this newsletter. We’re recommending these things because we actually love them.

Japan’s third largest city is #1 in our ❤️

Osaka, celebrated as the "kitchen of Japan," offers a unique blend of culinary excellence and a welcoming atmosphere for LGBTQ+ travelers. Japan’s third largest city, known for its diverse food scene and inclusive culture, invites visitors to explore its lively streets, from the neon-lit Dotonbori to the avant-garde Amerikamura. Here, LGBTQ+ visitors can enjoy both the warmth of Osaka's friendly community and the city's rich array of flavors, making it an unmissable destination for those seeking both adventure and belonging in Japan. And yes—it’s safe for us: Japan is often ranked as one of the safest countries for LGBTQ+ travelers in Asia.

What to do: In Osaka, the adventure begins with iconic sights like the majestic Osaka Castle, the bustling Umeda Sky Building with its breathtaking city views, and the city’s iconic, vibrant aquarium. Foodies will revel in the endless culinary delights at the Kuromon Ichiba Market, where local flavors come to life. As night falls, the neon lights of Dotonbori switch on in the beating heart of the city. For the foodie, see how many of these 38 essential restaurants you can get to (challenge accepted!!).

The heart of Osaka's LGBTQ community is in the Doyama district, a welcoming hub of bars, clubs, and cafes catering to the community. There are bars for every type of experience: from karaoke bars where you can belt out your favorite tunes to nightclubs to intimate venues perfect for a quiet drink.

When to go: Visiting Osaka in early fall offers the perfect blend of pleasant weather and LGBTQ events. September's highlight is the Kansai Queer Film Festival, and the city holds its pride, Kansai Rainbow Pride Festival, in October. This period also showcases Osaka’s best weather, with mild temperatures and minimal rainfall. The other prime time to visit Osaka is spring.

Where to stay: For those seeking a luxurious stay in Osaka, the InterContinental Osaka offers unparalleled service and elegance, with its stunning city views and exquisite dining options. On the more affordable side, the Osaka Tokyu REI Hotel is both moderately priced and close to the Doyama gay scene and nearby train stations. For a more authentic stay, there are also plenty of Airbnb options to choose from.

Q&A Time:

Last week we asked, how many trips do you take per year? Here are the results:

Ronnie said: “As a school teacher, it’s hard to get away. I only have summers, and that is the most expensive time to travel.” Teachers deserve a break the most!

Stu said: “We go to Palm Springs a couple times a year, to Provincetown once a year and to 3 or 4 cruises a year. We love our retirement!” Count me in!

This week, we want to know: how many continents have you been to? Tell us more after submitting your vote.
