This week:

Oh, and btw: we don’t make any money from the content in this newsletter. We’re recommending these things because we actually love them.

The vivid and historic heart of Mexico is a must for all Queer travelers

The third largest city in the Western Hemisphere, beautiful and vibrant Mexico City is often overlooked by travelers of all stripes, wanting a taste of the U.S. to the north, or a relaxing time on the beach. But make no mistake: this landlocked capital is a can’t miss for any world traveler, and, because of its progressive and welcoming attitude, it’s a must-visit for Queer tourists as well. Same-sex marriage has been legal in the city since 2010 (a full five years before the U.S.), and the community is vibrant and visible.

What to see: Besides the main tourist attractions like Zócalo, one of the largest public squares in the world, the floating gardens of Xochimilco, and the Frida Kahlo Museum, there are plenty of LGBTQ-specific attractions and activities. The city’s main gayborhood is Zona Rosa (or “Pink Zone” in English), home to bars, clubs, bathhouses, and LGBTQ-friendly shops. It’s the place for nightlife. Other can’t miss spots include El Vicio, formerly the Teatro Cabaret, a great spot for drag shows and other performances, and Museo de la Mujer (Woman’s Museum), established in 2011, to recenter women in the historical tale of Mexico.

When to go: The best time to visit Mexico City is during the spring (March to May) or the fall (September to November). These periods offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds compared to the busy summer months. Pride month of June is also an exciting time to visit due to the festivities and vibrant atmosphere around the city—culminating with the city’s Pride march, this year on June 29.

Where to stay: In the expansive cityscape of Mexico City, you'll find a diverse array of LGBTQ-friendly accommodations, from trendy Airbnbs to luxurious hotels. If you're looking for something upscale and fashionable, consider the Polanco district. Here, the 237-room W Mexico City stands out with its modern, club-like decor and an indulgent AWAY spa. On the more affordable side but yet still centrally located is Amberes 64, a 4-star hotel with a classic homely feel to the rooms.

Q&A Time:

Last week we asked, would you in how many cities have you celebrated pride? Here are the results:

Zaz260 said: "Toronto, Auckland and walked in the parade in Leeds several times!”

Gary JP said: “Many here in US, also Canada and South America”

This week, we want to know: When you travel, do you prefer a relaxing vacation, or a trip filled with sightseeing and adventure? Tell us why after you vote!
