8 Can’t-Miss Pride Celebrations in June
The mother of all pride parades: NYC.
Spring has sprung which means one thing: Pride Month is just around the corner! And with it comes a series of celebrations around the world that underscore our community’s ongoing fight for freedom and equality. These festivities trace their origin to a pivotal moment in history—the Stonewall Riots of June 1969 in New York City, which sparked the modern gay rights movement. Throughout the month, cities around the world burst into Pride, each offering a unique cultural experience. Here are 8 can't-miss Gay Pride celebrations in June that continue to honor the courageous spirit of Stonewall—because the time to book is now!
1. São Paulo: June 2 — The LGBTQ+ capital of South America erupts into Pride with the first big celebration of the month. The festivities include the city’s Black Party and Fresh, the city's most famous pool party, all building to the big parade on Sunday. Here’s a full guide to Sao Paulo Pride.
2. Los Angeles: June 9 — The City of Angels bursts into Pride the second weekend in June with a massive block party and parade in Hollywood. The festivities really kick off the prior weekend with West Hollywood’s pride, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year — and goes all the way through Pride Night at Dodger Stadium on June 14. More info on LA Pride.
3. Washington, D.C.: June 9 — The same weekend on the other side of the United States, the nation’s capital holds its annual Pride celebration. A week of parties leads up to D.C.’s Pride parade that Sunday. But you may want to hold out for next year, when Washington hosts World Pride 2025. More info on DC Pride.
4. Mexico City: June 29 — Fast forward a couple of weeks and get to Central America’s largest Pride celebration in Mexico’s capital city. Over a million people turn out for the festivities, known locally as Marcha del Orgullo. The march is Saturday in the Zona Rosa. Here’s a full guide to Mexico City Pride.
5. London: June 29 — The UK’s longest running and biggest Pride celebration also reaches a climax on Saturday, June 29 with London Pride. The parade winds its way through Central London (including Piccadilly Square) to a massive festival in Trafalgar Square. More info on Pride in London.
6. Paris: June 29 — Not to be outdone, the City of Lights also hosts its massive festival and parade on Saturday, June 29. The parade, also known as Marche des Fiertés LGBT, end in the city’s gay district, Le Marais. This year’s Pride will be extra wild, coming just a month before the Summer Olympics take over the city. More info on Paris Pride.
7. San Francisco: June 30. San Francisco Pride, one of the most iconic celebrations, culminates on June 30 with a grand parade and festival on that Sunday. This vibrant event features a colorful march through the heart of the city, followed by a festival that celebrates diversity and community solidarity. More info on San Francisco Pride.
8. New York City: June 30. The mother of all Pride celebrations culminates with a dazzling parade down Fifth Avenue into Greenwich Villages, right to the site of the Stonewall Riots. But the weekend before is crazy - with way too many parties to mention. Here’s a full guide to NYC Pride.
These are just eight of the many cities that hold their Pride celebrations in June. Honorable mentions include: Dallas (6/2), Sitges (6/9), Rome (6/15), Milan (6/29), Dublin (6/29), Houston (6/29), and Toronto and Chicago (6/30).
