11 Must-Visit Queer Nude Beaches

Looking to bare it all somewhere warm? Whether you're seeking the perfect tan lines (or lack thereof), a liberating skinny dip, or just a judgment-free zone to let it all hang out, we've rounded up the world's best queer-friendly nude beaches. There's something magical about discovering a new Gay beach – a secluded stretch of sand where you can escape the crowds and truly be yourself. From hidden coves near major cities to famous stretches of sand that have been gay hangouts for decades, these beaches offer something for every body.

1. Baker Beach (San Francisco, CA): Located just west of the Golden Gate Bridge, this clothing-optional beach offers stunning views of the bridge and is popular with the local LGBTQ+ community. Only the northernmost section is nude, and it's easily accessible by Muni bus or a 15-minute Uber from downtown SF. Best time to visit is September and October when San Francisco experiences its warmest, fog-free days.

2. Black's Beach (San Diego, CA): This expansive nude beach sits beneath the cliffs of Torrey Pines, about 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. Popular with queer sunbathers and surfers, it requires a somewhat challenging climb down the cliffs (or a long walk from La Jolla Shores) but rewards visitors with one of California's most beautiful beaches. With San Diego's perfect weather, it's great year-round, but peak season is June through September.

3. Hippie Hollow (Austin, TX): The only legal nude beach in the state of Texas sits on the shores of Lake Travis, about 30 minutes from downtown Austin. This rocky lakefront park is especially popular during QueerBomb weekend in June and requires a small entrance fee ($8) to access. Visit in late spring (April-May) or early fall (September-October) to avoid the scorching Texas summer heat.

4. Gunnison Beach (Sandy Hook, NJ): The only legal nude beach in the New York metro area is best reached via a beautiful ferry ride from Manhattan. This queer-friendly beach has separate areas for social and quiet sunbathing and gets especially busy on summer weekends. The season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with July and August being peak months.

5. Playa del Muerto (Sitges, Spain): Located just 35 minutes by train from Barcelona, this exclusively gay nude beach is nestled between two rocky outcrops at the far end of Sitges' beach strip. It's a bit of a hike from town (especially if it’s hot!) along a set of train tracks — it can be difficult in flip flops. It tends to be busiest during Sitges Pride and Circuit Festival weeks. The beach season runs from May through October, with perfect beach weather in July and August.

6. Hanlan's Point Beach (Toronto, Canada): This clothing-optional beach on the Toronto Islands is accessible by a short ferry ride from downtown. Popular with Toronto's queer community, it offers stunning views of the city skyline and is especially lively during Pride month. The beach season is relatively short (it is Canada, after all!), running from late June through early September.

7. Little Beach (Maui, Hawaii): Located in Makena State Park, this secluded beach requires a short hike past Big Beach but rewards visitors with pristine sand and crystal-clear waters. It's particularly popular with LGBTQ+ travelers on Sundays when drum circles and sunset gatherings create a festive atmosphere. Thanks to Hawaii's climate, it's accessible year-round, though winter months can bring bigger waves.

8. Wreck Beach (Vancouver, Canada): North America's largest nude beach stretches along the University of British Columbia campus, accessible by a steep trail with 500 steps. The beach has distinct social areas, including popular LGBTQ+ sections, and vendors selling everything from sarongs to cocktails. Peak season is July and August, when Vancouver's weather is most reliable.

9. Collins Beach (Portland, OR): Located on Sauvie Island, about 25 minutes from downtown Portland, this clothing-optional beach along the Columbia River is popular with Portland's queer community. The beach requires a parking permit ($10) but offers a laid-back, friendly vibe. Best visited during Portland's sunny season from July through September.

10. Elia Beach (Mykonos, Greece): The southern section of this stunning beach is unofficially clothing-optional and very popular with LGBTQ+ travelers. Located 10km from Mykonos Town, it's accessible by regular bus service or taxi. Peak season aligns with Mykonos' party season from June through September, with August being the busiest and most expensive time.

11. Lady Bay Beach (Sydney, Australia): This small but popular nude beach in Sydney Harbour National Park is just a short walk from South Head. It's one of Australia's oldest nude beaches and very popular with Sydney's gay community. Remember that Australian seasons are reversed - peak season is during the Southern Hemisphere summer from December through February, with perfect beach weather in January.

Remember, the charm of these beaches largely lies in their natural, unspoiled state. By visiting responsibly, we can help preserve these beautiful spots for future enjoyment. How many have you been to??
