11 Great Fall Getaways For LGBTQ+ Travelers
Fall is the perfect time to get away and explore new destinations and what the season of change has to offer. Whether you’re looking for vibrant city life, a cozy mountain getaway, or some fun in the sun, here’s a list of top fall travel spots where you can relax, explore, and connect with like-minded travelers in beautiful surroundings.
1. Asheville, North Carolina
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is the ideal destination for LGBTQ+ travelers who love the outdoors. Fall foliage in Asheville is some of the best in the country, and the town is also home to a vibrant arts scene and LGBTQ+-owned establishments. You can hike by day, then explore the local breweries and queer-friendly venues by night. Check out this guide to Queer Asheville.
2. New Orleans, Louisiana
Fall in New Orleans means cooler weather and fewer crowds, but the city is still buzzing with LGBTQ+ culture and celebration. Southern Decadence is over, but the fun continues in the fall with Halloween New Orleans, one of the most celebrated Gay party weekends of the year in late October. Also, don’t miss one of the many haunted graveyard tours in the city!
3. Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Nestled in the Ozarks, Eureka Springs is often called the "gay capital of the Ozarks" and the “gayest small town in America.” With its beautiful Victorian architecture, LGBTQ+-friendly accommodations, and thriving art scene, Eureka Springs offers a mix of rustic charm and vibrant community. October brings the bluegrass Hillberry Music Festival to town, while later in the month, zombies take over the town!
4. Palm Springs, California
Not ready for cold weather or changing leaves? Book a trip to iconic Palm Springs, where the weather is always warm and welcoming. This desert city is a renowned LGBTQ+ destination, offering luxurious resorts, poolside lounging, and a thriving arts scene. The city holds its annual Pride Festival and Parade at the end of October, and the city is full of gay, clothing-optional resorts.
5. Atlanta, Georgia
Fall is the perfect time to visit Atlanta, the jewel of the American southeast, as the city also hold its annual Pride festival in October. (We heard they had to move it from June because it was too hot and/or too big—the festival at Piedmont Park ruins the grass.) One of the largest and most well-known LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations in the Southeast, Atlanta Pride draws tens of thousands of visitors from across the country. Not to mention all the other great reasons to visit Atlanta, like the up-and-coming neighborhoods or the amazing BBQ.
6. New Hope, Pennsylvania
Small towns more your vibe? Check out New Hope, a small but lively town along the Delaware River. It’s long been a favorite for LGBTQ+ travelers. With its charming bed-and-breakfasts, antique shops, and nearby wineries, it’s perfect for a romantic fall retreat. Don’t miss the Bucks County Playhouse, which regularly features top-tier theater performances.
7. Saugatuck, Michigan
This lakeside gem is a favorite LGBTQ+ destination in the Midwest. Saugatuck’s Oval Beach is perfect for an autumn stroll, and the town’s art galleries and LGBTQ+-owned businesses add to its charm. Fall brings vibrant foliage, and local wineries and breweries make it a great destination for food and drink lovers.
8. Provincetown, Massachusetts
Known as one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly towns in the world, Provincetown is not just great in the summer, it’s also a perfect fall escape! After the busy summer season, the town quiets down but still offers plenty to do. Enjoy stunning coastal views, local art galleries, and cozy, LGBTQ+-owned bed-and-breakfasts. Forget pumpkin space, the “Mates Leather Weekend” (NSFW) is the real spice you need this fall.
9. Sonoma, California
For a peaceful fall retreat, LGBTQ+ travelers should head to Sonoma. This wine country destination is perfect for enjoying autumn’s cool breezes while sampling world-class wines. Sonoma’s inclusive vibe and charming LGBTQ+-owned vineyards and inns make it a top choice for a romantic getaway. Harvest activities in the fall add an extra layer of magic, including the world-championship grape stomp at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
10. Toronto, Canada
Fall is a great time to visit Toronto with fewer crowds, crisp weather, and great sightseeing. Explore the city’s thriving arts and food scenes, or take a scenic day trip to Niagara Falls to enjoy the autumn colors. On Haloween night, the city’s gay Church and Wellesley Village is taken over by gays in costume for a raucous night of costumed fun.
11. Lost River, West Virginia
West Virginia may not scream “Gay getaway” but this one is a gem. Lost River is a small, LGBTQ+ haven in the Appalachian Mountains. Known for its serene landscapes, hiking trails, and queer-owned businesses, it’s an ideal spot for travelers looking to unwind in nature. Peak leaf peeping time is mid October, a perfect time to explore nearby Lost River State Park and Canaan Valley. If you’re up for a drive, you can also tick one of the country’s newest national Parks off your list.

Q&A Time:
Last week we asked, would you fly if you knew you had Covid? Here are the results:
We thought this would be worse TBH
Have to say we are RELIEVED by these results. But some of y’all got mad in the comments…
“That would be a very selfish thing to do.”
“It is time people care about others and the nation.”
“TBH, it would matter what stage of COVID I was in.”
But our favorite response: “I guess it would all boil down to how hot the pilot was.”
Amen. Joking. Maybe.
Apropos of nothing, this week we want to know: have you ever hooked up with your hot pilot — or flight attendant?
Have you ever hooked up with your flight crew? ✈️Or, if you ARE the flight crew - have you ever hooked up with a passenger? Details please... |
