The 11 GAYEST Places to Ring in 2027

Some people want to spend New Year’s Eve on the couch in sweatpants, and that’s great. This article is not for those people.

For some of us, NYE is the gay Super Bowl: a week of parties, fireworks, a drag queen dangling from a balcony in a giant shoe, and somebody you met four hours ago yelling “HAPPY NEW YEAR” in your face. The good news is the gays have been doing this for decades, so there’s a big queer party waiting on pretty much every continent.

The less fun news: NYE week is when hotels and flights get stupid expensive, and the best rooms in Puerto Vallarta, Rio and Sydney go first. It’s about 10 weeks out, which means now is when you book. Here are the 11 gayest places to ring in 2027, from beach circuit weeks to one very cozy option on Cape Cod. Let’s get into it. 👇

A note on prices: hotel rates below are the “from” prices and averages Kayak showed this October. NYE week will run higher (sometimes a lot higher), so treat them as a floor, not a quote. Party dates come from the organizers or event listings and can still shift, so check before you buy flights.

1. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio’s Réveillon on Copacabana is the biggest New Year’s Eve party on the planet: around two million people on the sand, free concerts on multiple stages from around 8pm, and more than ten minutes of fireworks fired off barges at midnight. Then everyone wades into the ocean to jump seven waves for luck. Very wholesome. The rest of the week, not so much.

What makes it gay: Rio turns NYE week into a full circuit festival. TNW’s Rio New Year Festival runs Dec 26, 2026 – Jan 2, 2027, with its Welcome Rio 2027 party on Jan 1 (4pm to 6am, because of course) at the Museu de Arte Moderna in Flamengo Park, and BIGGER in Rio at The Home on Jan 2. Pool parties and circuit nights from Tchi Boom, Guapo and others fill the days around it. By day, the gay stretch of Ipanema beach sits between lifeguard posts 8 and 9, just below Rua Farme de Amoedo. Look for the rainbow flags (and the abs).

Where to stay: Ipanema puts you near the gay beach and a short ride from the Copacabana chaos. Kayak showed Hotel Astoria Ipanema from $244 and Arena Ipanema from $286 a night this fall, with Ipanema weekend averages around $390. Expect NYE week to cost a lot more, and many hotels to require minimum stays.

👉 Pro tip: Wear white (it’s the tradition, and you’ll look tan). Leave the gold chain and the good phone at the hotel, since the beach is a known hotspot for thieves. The Metro runs all night on the 31st, but you need a pre-bought card, and ride-hailing near the beach is a nightmare after midnight. Walk.

2. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Playa de Los Muertos beach in Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica

PV is basically a gay beach town that happens to have a Mexican city attached. The Zona Romántica packs 20+ LGBTQ+ bars, clubs and rooftops into about eight blocks, and NYE week is when the whole thing goes into overdrive.

What makes it gay: Mantamar Beach Club’s New Year’s Festival 2027 runs six days, Dec 29 – Jan 3, with pool parties, sunset sessions and beachfront parties at 169 Malecón (get tickets via Eventbrite; going fast). The gay beach is Playa de Los Muertos, where Mantamar, Blue Chairs, Ritmos and Sapphire line the southern end. At night, the bar strip is Lázaro Cárdenas: Industry, CC Slaughters, Paco’s Ranch and La Noche are all within stumbling distance of each other.

Where to stay: Stay in the Zona Romántica and you’ll never need a cab. Kayak listed The Tryst, an LGBT hotel, from $311 a night and Petit Hotel Pilitas from $88 this fall; Almar Resort (Mantamar’s sister hotel) is the gay luxury pick, but you’ll need to price it for your dates.

👉 Pro tip: Flights from the US fill up fast for the 28th and 29th. Book the flight before you obsess over the party passes.

3. Sydney, Australia

New Year's Eve fireworks over Sydney Harbour Bridge

Sydney is one of the first big cities to hit midnight, so you’ll be in 2027 while your group chat back home is still eating lunch. More than a million people pack the harbour, and the fireworks go off twice: at 9pm and at midnight. (Yes, they’ve done rainbow ones.)

What makes it gay: It’s December in Australia, which means summer, which means shirts are optional. Oxford Street in Darlinghurst is the gay strip, with the three-level Stonewall Hotel and Universal (the superclub that took over Midnight Shift) leading the charge. Gay party listings run the whole week, Dec 29 – Jan 3, and Thick and Juicy has a New Year’s Day edition at Oxford Art Factory. Poof Doof usually does a NYE party too, but its 2026 date isn’t confirmed yet.

Where to stay: Darlinghurst keeps you on Oxford Street. The Kirketon Hotel was from $187 a night on Kayak this fall, the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park from $346, and December is the area’s priciest month (Kayak’s average is about $610 a night). Book now or bring a tent.

👉 Pro tip: The free harbour vantage points fill up by the afternoon, and the official site sells ticketed spots too. Pick one, claim it early, and pack snacks.

4. Bangkok, Thailand

Here’s a fun bit of trivia: when Thailand’s marriage equality law took effect on January 23, 2025 (making it the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage), about 180 couples registered at a mass wedding in Siam Paragon. That same mall is where thousands of gays will be dancing this New Year’s Eve.

What makes it gay: White Party Bangkok, which made history in 2026 as the first LGBTQ+ festival in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Festivals. Its 10th-anniversary “AmaXon” edition runs Dec 29, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027: Jock Ball at The River Club on the 29th, four nights in Paragon Hall on the fifth floor of Siam Paragon (Dec 30 – Jan 2), and Beef Ball at NEX Hall on Jan 3. Tickets are on Eventpop (prices exclude 7% VAT; Jock Ball and Beef Ball are sold separately). Between parties, Silom Soi 4 is the gay street, and Stranger Bar (“the house of drag queens”) does shows every night.

Where to stay: Silom, for the bars and the BTS. December is Silom’s most expensive month and it’s still a bargain: Kayak’s December average is about $126 a night, with the Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom from $78 and lebua at State Tower from $118 this fall.

👉 Pro tip: Bangkok in late December is hot and the parties go until sunrise. Hydrate like it’s your job, and take the BTS to Siam instead of sitting in NYE traffic.

5. Madrid, Spain

Madrid does NYE with a healthy lil snack. At midnight, the whole country watches the clock at Puerta del Sol chime twelve times, and you eat one grape per chime for twelve months of luck. It sounds easy. It isn’t. (Buy the peeled, seedless grapes in a tin. Trust us.) We’ve been to Madrid, and Chueca alone is worth the trip.

What makes it gay: The WE Party New Year Festival, Spain’s big gay NYE circuit week, runs Dec 29, 2026 – Jan 2, 2027: Candy, Macho, the WE Astral New Year’s Eve party at La Riviera on the 31st, a New Year’s Day party, and Guapo to close it out. WE’s own site is already selling the All Access wristband and Astral tickets, with more to come. If you’re into leather, Strong runs a fetish week across the same stretch.

Where to stay: Chueca, so the after-party is a walk home. Kayak showed Petit Palace Santa Bárbara from $354 and Room Mate Oscar from $475 for a weekend this fall. Book early, because WE week fills the gay hotels.

👉 Pro tip: La Riviera is about a 20-minute taxi from Chueca, and taxis on NYE are a fight. Book a ride ahead or pregame close to the venue.

6. Gran Canaria (Maspalomas), Spain

The Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, lit up at night

Winter sun, a gay beach in the dunes, and a shopping center that turns into a gay nightclub complex after dark. Maspalomas is Europe’s gay winter escape, and it’s one of our favorites.

What makes it gay: The island’s gay Christmas and New Year season runs Dec 18, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027, centered on the Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés. On NYE, Ricky’s throws a party from 7pm, Sparkle’s does a special edition, and Club Kiki on the Yumbo’s third floor goes late. Friday boat parties (including a clothing-optional one) keep the days busy, and the gay beach is between Kiosks 7 and 8 on Playa del Inglés, through the dunes.

Where to stay: Playa del Inglés, walking distance to the Yumbo. Kayak’s average there is about $226 a night, with Servatur Waikiki from $184 this fall. For a gay-only stay, Mow Hotels runs the LGBTIQ+ Vista Bonita and Atlantic Sun Beach (price your dates on their site, which lists a 10% direct-booking discount).

👉 Pro tip: Most of the gay bars are inside the Yumbo, so you can bar-hop all night without leaving one building. Your feet will thank you on the 1st.

7. Key West, Florida

Times Square drops a ball. Key West drops a drag queen in a giant red high heel.

What makes it gay: The Red Shoe Drop happens at the Bourbon St. Pub/New Orleans House complex, 724 Duval St.: a female impersonator rides a super-sized red heel down from the balcony, landing as midnight strikes. The street show starts at 9pm and street viewing is free. Balcony VIP tickets (open bar and snacks) are sold by phone only, at 305-293-9800. The tradition started with drag icon Sushi, who did 25 drops before retiring, and the shoe has had new riders since. Down Duval, Sloppy Joe’s drops a conch shell and Schooner Wharf lowers a “pirate wench” from a ship’s mast, because Key West.

Where to stay: Anywhere near Duval, since you won’t want to drive. Key West is not cheap: Kayak showed Parrot Key Hotel & Villas from about $340, Silver Palms Inn from about $375 and Casa Marina from about $510 a night this fall, and NYE goes higher.

👉 Pro tip: Stake out your spot on Duval early. The street in front of the Bourbon St. Pub gets packed hours before midnight.

8. Miami Beach, Florida

If you want your NYE with a side of art deco, neon and Ocean Drive people-watching, Miami delivers.

What makes it gay: Dreamland, Miami’s gay NYE festival, runs Dec 31, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 across Art Rooftop in Wynwood, M2, Midline and Throw Social. Weekend passes (GA and VIP) are on Tixr; prices aren’t listed yet. Add the Climax afterhours on New Year’s Day if you have anything left in you.

Where to stay: South Beach, then Uber to the parties. December is South Beach’s priciest month (Kayak’s average is about $350 a night); citizenM Miami South Beach was from $190 and the Beacon from $200 this fall.

👉 Pro tip: Dreamland’s venues are spread between Wynwood and the beach, so budget for rides, or pick a hotel on the mainland side near the parties.

9. Los Angeles, California

LA’s gay NYE is all about Masterbeat, the circuit party that’s been ringing in the new year for the West Coast gays for years.

What makes it gay: Masterbeat’s 2026 edition: the Bacchanal pre-party in West Hollywood on Sat Dec 26, the Odyssey NYE party at The Vermont on Dec 31 (9pm–4am), and New Year’s afterhours at Los Globos on Jan 1 (3am–10am). Lineup and final venues are still to be confirmed, so watch masterbeat.com. The rest of the week, WeHo’s Santa Monica Boulevard is your living room.

Where to stay: West Hollywood. Kayak showed the Ramada Plaza West Hollywood from $209 and Hotel Ziggy on Sunset from $329 this fall, with January the most expensive month (about $438 a night on average).

👉 Pro tip: The Vermont isn’t in WeHo. Plan your ride, because surge pricing at 4am on New Year’s Day is a horror movie.

10. Brussels, Belgium

We were just in Brussels, and the city doesn’t wait until midnight to get gay. Its most famous party, La Démence, waits until the next day.

What makes it gay: La Démence, running since 1989, has a party on Friday, January 1, 2027. The New Year’s Day edition is usually at Fuse, which Nomadic Boys calls “a dark, sweaty labyrinth”: heavy tech-house downstairs, more euphoric upstairs, and a crowd that’s mostly men and very international. It’s the move for anyone who’d rather sleep through midnight and party through New Year’s Day. (Tickets are on Paylogic via the site; price TBA.)

Where to stay: The city center, near the Grand-Place. Kayak had Motel One Brussels from $178 and a&o Brussels Centrum from $116 this fall.

👉 Pro tip: Make it a long weekend: New Year’s Eve in town, La Démence on the 1st, and our gay Brussels guide (coming soon) for everything else.

11. Provincetown, Massachusetts

For the gays who want New Year’s with a fireplace instead of a fog machine. P-town in winter is quiet, cozy and a fraction of the summer price.

What makes it gay: First Light Provincetown runs Dec 26, 2026 – Jan 1, 2027. On NYE, a free drone show (about 200 drones over the harbor near MacMillan Pier) starts at 6pm; the town retired its fireworks for drones last year. Then the Crown & Anchor opens its Wave Bar and pool deck from 5pm to 2am. On New Year’s Day, the Polar Bear Plunge goes into the harbor at 11am, benefitting the Center for Coastal Studies. (Bring a towel. Bring two.)

Where to stay: Winter rates are a steal compared to July: Kayak showed Lotus Provincetown from about $100, The Masthead from about $130 and Gifford House from about $205 a night this fall.

👉 Pro tip: A lot of P-town shuts for the winter. Check that your restaurant and guesthouse are open the week you’re there.

Before you book
